The castle is known from sources dating back to the 1200th century, and is the oldest secular inhabited house in Denmark.
Back then it was a heavily fortified castle on a steep hill with a moat and drawbridge. Today we welcome guests with more open arms. In the basement, building remains from the early Middle Ages have been found, so the castle is actually even older.
