The Langeland mills
There have supposedly been 31 mills on Langeland over time, but today there are not many left, and even fewer that you as a guest can still visit. Below we highlight the four mills that are most accessible and open for visits.
You can read more about some of the other mills on Langeland at VisitLangeland.
Lindelse Mill and Mill Farm
This mill is also called the “Phoenix Mill” because it rose from the ashes two years after the fire of the original mill in 1826. Today, the Dutch mill is both protected, well-preserved, and an extremely good viewpoint.
The mill ceased operation around 1960, after which the mill stood and fell into disrepair until 2009. Since then, the mill has been owned by the last miller's son, who has embarked on a thorough restoration of the site. Today, it has well-preserved equipment such as grinders, sieves, rollers and running gear. In the lower part is the roller loft, and in the upper mill there is a mill loft, star wheel loft, lorry loft and hat loft. From the mill's deck there is also a view of both the east and west coasts of Langeland.
By appointment, visitors can enter the mill, but you are always welcome to use the picnic benches and enjoy the fantastic view of the Langeland landscape and Lindelse Nor.

Tranekær Castle Mill
The old castle mill is a characteristic landmark on the small hill north of Tranekær. Come by and experience the partially still functional mill, and buy a piece of Langeland to take home in the form of local flour.
The mill is a Dutch windmill from 1846, and has gone through periods of both decay and restoration. Operation of the mill ceased in the early 1960s, and about 20 years later Langeland Museum started its restoration project and then opened the mill as a museum. Today, the mill is listed, and guests can visit the entire mill interior. In the warehouse building next to the mill there is an exhibition about the history of milling on Langeland, and a small café and shop where you can buy local flour, among other things. The building was built in 1916, and on the walls and beams there is also still information inscribed by the people who previously worked there.

Rudkøbing City Mill
Since the 1600th century, a mill has stood on Rudkøbing's fortress rampart, and today Langeland's oldest, Dutch, mill stands there.
The current mill was completed in 1820, and was next to a water mill that was located at the now-demolished pond at the foot of the mill hill. In 1957, the operation was completed, and the mill was donated to an independent institution. It has since been restored in collaboration with the Danish Forest and Nature Agency, which included, among other things, load-bearing structures, securing foundations, new chipboard cladding outside, and installation of a new mill cap. Today, the mill is maintained continuously, and for example, a storm-damaged blade was repaired in October 2022.
Since the restoration, the mill has been publicly accessible and opening days are announced on their Facebook page.
Address: Rue Mark 1, 5900 Rudkøbing.
Distance from Emmerbølle Camping: 19,5 km.
Distance from Ristinge Camping: 21,5 km.

Skovsgaard Mill and Mill Farm
Follow the mill path a little over a kilometer away from Skovsgård estate, and experience the protected and fully functional mill, where the blades still turn when the weather is right.
There has been a mill at Skovsgaard Gods since the 1600th century, and the current mill and millyard have stood there since 1904 and 1830 respectively. This makes the mill the only remaining mill on Langeland built in the 20th century. The actual operation and the associated bakery ceased in the 1950s. After that, it was restored only in 1984, and again in 2004 after a storm in 1999 tore off a wing and caused other damage.
You can visit the mill during the school summer and autumn holidays, but nature is always open.
