At Emmerbølle Strand Camping we are thinking about the future. It is important to do something, instead of just talking about doing something. We have therefore taken a completely natural step for us, namely that the sustainable and green idea must be a permanent part of both current and future actions. This applies all the way around, regardless of whether it is about waste sorting, protecting biodiversity or how we increase the use of digitalization in the administration department.
We have chosen to support ourselves and be approved in Camping Outdoor Denmark's certification scheme, Green Stay, which is based on the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. In this way, we are constantly in a continuous process with future goals, action plans and requirements for fulfilling these.
We encourage our guests to take part in green thinking and action - often just small changes in our awareness and habits can make a difference in the green direction.
In 2022, we started a major journey towards greener heating. The two old oil boilers have been replaced in favor of air-to-water heat pumps. Our goal is to also replace the three pellet boilers by the pool, and to have the entire system powered by solar cells within just a few years.
We have also received a tablecloth to keep the heat in the swimming pool overnight.

In the large parking lot in front of the square, we have a double fast charging station affiliated with the provider Sperto. Everyone can charge their electric car, regardless of which company they normally use.
Charging takes place with an App/key fob, where more than 30 providers can be used.
If your provider does not offer roaming, you can scan the QR code on the charging station and follow the instructions from Sperto.

We place great emphasis on preserving hedges, trees and untouched areas to promote biodiversity. With an area of 25 hectares, Emmerbølle Strand Camping has plenty of space for this. In addition to the approx. 3 km of hedges and bushes on the 15 hectares used for camping, there is a small natural marsh area on the edge of the site, a small forest by the beach and large open areas that are not cultivated. Where possible, nesting sites for birds and insect hotels are created.

Around the site we have 4 large environmental stations, where we encourage our guests to sort waste into 5 fractions. There are also waste containers in the kitchens for residual waste and biowaste.
At the site, we sort into 10 fractions ourselves.
For larger items that do not belong in a waste bin, we ask you to take them to the recycling center in Lejbølle www.langeland-forsyning.dk.

We try to avoid waste in our kiosk as much as possible. We are very aware that if an item is about to expire, we would rather sell it at a lower price than throw it away.
We use vegetables that look a bit boring, but are perfectly edible, for our rabbits, who welcome them with open arms.
We have bake off bread in the store, and for most of the season, we only sell bread to order. During the high season, if there is any bread left over, we will sell it at a reduced price just before closing time.
Likewise, all our packaging for coffee, pizzas, toast, old-fashioned ice cream, etc., is made from recyclable materials.

Water savers have been installed throughout the site in the service buildings' taps, shower heads and in most toilets. Outside on the site, there are pressure water taps at the tap points, all to minimize water consumption.
Around the site, we use discreet signage to encourage people to save water.

Emmerbølle Camping is one of the only larger campsites to have its own infiltration system, which ensures that all our wastewater is infiltration into the ground for purification in a natural way.
This means that we naturally have septic tanks that need to be emptied from time to time. We ask that you bear with this, we try to do it at times when it is the least disruptive.

Approximately 90% of our cleaning products are Nordic Ecolabelled, and our paper rolls in the kitchen and toilets are made from recyclable materials.
In our cabins, there are always new, clean cloths for the guests, and we wash and reuse them ourselves in daily operations afterwards.

Approximately 95% of all lamps in service buildings, shops and public lighting are either LED or solar cells. In addition, many places have installed motion sensors in the rooms so that the lights do not remain on all night.
Twilight relays have been installed everywhere in the area lighting, so that the lights are only on at night.
The pump in the swimming pool is time-controlled and energy-optimized, so it runs in cycles depending on how much activity there is in the pool.
If a cabin is not rented, all electricity in it is turned off.

In our administration and daily work, we try to reduce the use of paper and other office materials. We always print double-sided if possible, otherwise all leftover paper is recycled as notes.
When ordering breakfast bread, we always encourage our guests to reuse the same note to avoid wasting resources.
We only print receipts in the store upon specific request.
Our bookkeeping is done 100% digitally.

Our first major goal is to become a CO2 neutral place, and this requires that heavy elements such as heat sources and power supply become green. We are betting that this will happen within the next few years by installing air to water heat pumps and solar cells.
In addition, all the small important initiatives in daily operations such as LED light sources in all cabins, rainwater collection, which can be used for watering flowers, double flush on the remaining toilets, less use of fossil fuels in our vehicles and much, much more, further save water.
The most important thing for us is that with every new initiative, renovation or new construction, we remember to think about sustainability and maintenance-freeness. If we do that, we are already far ahead…
